ILSAPP listserv

The Statewide Appellate Support Center maintains ILSAPP, a listserv open to New York attorneys who are involved at the trial and/or appellate level in mandated representation for criminal defense and/or Family Court matters and who do not provide legal services on behalf of prosecutors or social services agencies. This forum is designed to help defenders improve the quality of representation rendered by: (a) exploring issues, problems, and best practices; (b) having respectful, robust discussions; and (c) sharing valuable information and resources.

The primary original content that ILS provides on the listserv is weekly Decisions of Interest summarizing decisions from the prior week to help busy attorneys stay abreast of important developments in the case law. A central focus of the Decisions is on criminal and family law state court decisions in which the defendant prevailed upon appeal. We also summarize selected decisions from trial courts, the Second Circuit, and other jurisdictions. Every six months, we provide an index by topic of selected decisions to aid attorneys in their research.

On the listserv, we transmit valuable resources, such as New York Court of Appeals Updates and Issues to Develop at Trial newsletters from the Center for Appellate Litigation, and Court of Appeals analyses from attorney Timothy Murphy. ILSAPP is also available to post questions for consideration by the other 500 subscribers. To join the listserv, members sign a subscription form describing listserv protocols that prohibit the posting of confidential information about clients and any content for personal, commercial, or political gain.
